Findings from the second burden of wounds study published in the British Medical Journal (2020) continue to highlight the inconsistencies in the day-to-day practice of wound care and the need to provide clearer guidance on wound assessment and management for generalist nurses and healthcare assistants.
On average, patients were prescribed a mean of eight different dressing types during their care, and there was a 48% increase in real-term treatment costs from 2012/13 to 2017/18.
The Wounds UK digital event on Thursday 15 April 2021 is aimed at both TVNs and non-wound care specialists. In addition to an opening session that will provide analysis and main findings of the updated burden of wounds study published in 2020, the day will include short, sharp teaching sessions to enable non-specialists to improve their wound assessment skills, along with tips on choosing the right dressing at the right time for the right patient.
